During our short trip to Etampes, we tasted many different foods and french cuisine, but nothing was better than our night of desserts. Bought at a local patisserie, we indulged in several different desserts thats were sweet, tart and everything in between. My personal favorite was the Mille Feuille but they all were delicious. Café Creme

The "Café Creme" might be my favorite drink in Paris thus far. It is about a half cup of espresso with thick creme mixed in. Not only is the coffee here strong and delicious, the creme makes it sweet and delectable. Today while outside the Sacre Coeur with John, we sat in a wonderful café for a few hours and I indulged in a Coke and two Café Cremes. If you enjoy coffee you would understand how wonderful this drink is. The creme cuts the bitterness of the coffee, but it is strong enough to make sure the drink itself is not too sweet. They always come with a few cubes of sugar as well to balance it however way you want. There are many different tastes to be experienced with different types of espressos in france so I will be sure to update whenever I find a more delicious drink.

First Day

For those of you who don't know me too well, I am one of the pickiest eaters you will EVER meet, so finding food that I like will be an adventure here in Paris. Today we ate lunch at one of Paris's many cafés. I had rotisserie style chicken and fries with some leafy stuff that I believe was dandelion stems. The chicken was good, although I despise the taste of meat, the fries were up to my standard as well. The strange vegetable I did not like at all, although that may have been due to gravy having been spilled on it. The bread is very good, and pain au chocolate is very good (croissant with chocolate chips baked in). It should be interesting to see what the rest of this trip has in store for food.

A Guide to Eateries

As we were looking for more information about our locations, we stumbled on this useful guide to the Eateries of France. It is a list of the different types of restaurants and cafés, which might seem simple, but in France they take these things seriously. You never want to get a Crêperie and a Brasserie mixed up. The list is right here on LonelyPlanet.

Genetically Modified Foods

There is a great difference between meats and food quality between most countries in europe and the US. There is a big controversy over the use of Genetically Modified animals and plants for the use of Food. These genetically modified foods are supposed to create larger fruits and fatter cows that taste and look better. However, the issue of health and safety of both the animals and consumers must be taken into consideration. One will find, that in most restaurants in Europe, the steak tastes a little bit different, maybe even a little gamey. This is because the European Food Safety Authority is cracking down on the way plants and animals are raised and used for food. It is a controversial issue that involves the International Trade of Genetically Modified Foods. There is a rapidly rising concern in Europe regarding the use of Genetically modified foods. The EU is cracking down on regulations and the use of labeling on certain GM foods. This concern is also reaching over to the US where there is a steadily rising concern as well. However, the use of genetically modified food and controversial agricultural techniques are, for now, not as publicly fought as they are in Europe.
